Disaster Waste Management Guidelines (DWMG) Online

Disaster Waste Management Phases

Medium-Term Actions

This phase lays the foundation for the implementation of a disaster waste management programme during the long-term phase. Medium-term actions also continue to address key issues such as locating disposal sites for the different types of waste, streamlining logistics for waste collection and transportation, as well as reuse and recycling activities. Efforts in this phase build on the assessments conducted as part of the initial immediate and short-term actions. The medium-term phase should result a more in-depth understanding of local waste management needs and opportunities, with an emphasis on possible longer-term solutions. Required actions normally include:

  • Assessment
  • Operations
  • Planning
  • Communication and planning
