It should be noted that the disposal of dead bodies is often part of the disaster waste management sphere and requires sensitive handling to respect local culture and communities. In Port-au-Prince (Haiti), following the earthquake in 2010, the capacity to handle the large number of dead bodies was not sufficient, and weeks after the earthquake, it remained a substantial public health problem. After several weeks of emergency response, a large number of dead bodies were still present in the waste stream since no authority was capable of providing separate transport capacities.
