“Minerals and metals play a central role in the global economy and mining is an important source of economic development in many countries. However, the harmful effects of mining remain a challenge for society to acknowledge and address.” (RMF, 2021: 4)
The new report from the Responsible Mining Foundation (RMF) presents the results of a study on harmful economic, environmental, social and governance (EESG) impacts associated to mining companies. Based on a sample of the world largest mining companies, this report shows that a wide range of negative impacts happen and that there’s an urgent need to adopt responsible and sustainable mining practices around the world. It aims to raise awareness and calls for the prevention of harm across the sector.
