This chemical risks assessment was realized following a chemical fire at the Nairit Chemical Plant in Yerevan, Armenia. It highlights the risks of additional incidents and provides suggestions to reduce these risks.
Following a fire at the Nairit Chemical Plant in Yerevan, Armenia in August 2017, a team of experts was sent to the site, upon the request of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia. The team assessed response measures and remaining chemical risks. Experts were deployed with support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and France, with support of the (European) Union Civil Protection Mechanism. They spent two weeks in Yerevan mapping the chemicals present at the site. The team confirmed that the risk of additional incidents remains but that the risk could be reduced through a number of measures.
