UN Environment/OCHA Joint Unit Mission Report – 2017 Sierra Leone Floods and Landslides

The 2017 Sierra Leone UN Environment/OCHA Joint Unit Mission Report provides an overview of environmental risks and required needs following flooding and landslides in Sierra Leonne.

The UN Environment/OCHA Joint Unit coordinated and supported the deployment of an environmental expert as part of a seven-person United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team in Sierra Leone. The flooding and landslides in Sierra Leone directly affected more than 6,000 people and caused over 500 deaths. The environmental expert supported an analysis of immediate environmental risks related to the ongoing response, provided an overview of the needs, and opportunities for debris management, streamlined environmental considerations into assessments and supported information gathering and sharing for future risk reduction.
